Kuala Lumpur: The High Court has scheduled three days, from July 16 to 18, to hear submissions from both the prosecution and the defense in the high-profile case involving senior police officer DSP Mohd Nazri Abdul Razak. He faces charges related to the murder of 17-year-old Muhammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie, an incident that occurred two years ago.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Nasrul Hadi Abdul Ghani confirmed that the dates were determined by High Court Deputy Registrar Nazratul Natrah Mohd Yusuf during a case management session conducted via Zoom. The session also saw the participation of DPP M. Mognaraj and defense counsel Aiman Hakim Kamaruzzaman.
Earlier, on January 17, Judge Datuk Bhupindar Singh Gucharan Singh Preet had earmarked April 14 for a case mention via Zoom. This was to establish the timeline for oral submissions before the court makes a decision on whether to acquit Mohd Nazri, aged 45, or to require him to mount a defense against the charges.
Mohd Nazri stands accused of the murder of Muhammad Zaharif Affendi in the vicinity of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Jati, with the incident reportedly taking place between 12.05 pm and 12.40 pm on December 15, 2023. He faces charges under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which prescribes the death penalty or imprisonment ranging from 30 to 40 years, coupled with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane if convicted.
