High Court Schedules Hearing for Perikatan Nasional’s Challenge to RoS Suspension Order

Kuala Lumpur:The High Court has set December 7 as the date to hear Perikatan Nasional's (PN) judicial review application contesting the Registrar of Societies' (RoS) decision to suspend the coalition's activities.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the date was confirmed by lawyer Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali following an online e-Review proceeding conducted by Deputy Registrar Siti Nur Hafizah Mohd Sokran. The hearing is scheduled to take place before Judge Datuk Azizan Md Arshad at 230 pm.

RoS had issued the suspension order on September 23, 2026, under Subsection 13(2A) of the Societies Act 1966, after notifying the coalition on September 22. Judge Azizan granted PN leave to challenge this order on October 13, ruling that the coalition had met the necessary criteria to initiate judicial review proceedings.

The judicial review application was filed by PN and four of its component parties on October 5. The applicants include PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan) secretary-general Wong Chia Zhen, Malaysian Indian People's Party (MIPP) secretary-general N. Sathes Kumar, Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan) secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah, and Parti Pejuang Tanahair (Pejuang) secretary-general Datuk Sazmi Miah.

The respondents named in the case are RoS director-general Datuk Mohd Zulfikar Ahmad and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. The applicants argue that the suspension order has hindered their ability to conduct routine political activities, including the use of the coalition's name and symbol in the 16th Melaka state election.
