Heritage Colours Festival Returns To Celebrate, Revitalise Malaysia’s Railway Heritage

Kuala lumpur: The Railway Assets Corporation (RAC) is organising a three-day festival, known as The Heritage Colours Festival, beginning today as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the preservation, appreciation and revitalisation of the nation's cultural and historical heritage.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the festival, to run until June 28 from 10 am to 6 pm, is held at the Kuala Lumpur Railway Station, one of Malaysia's most significant heritage landmarks built in 1910. Visitors can look forward to a wide range of activities throughout the festival, including traditional dance performances, busking sessions, colouring competitions, pocket talks by registered conservators, and local vendor showcases.

The event also features interactive traditional arts and crafts experiences such as batik painting, basket weaving, crochet activities, traditional games and songket weaving, it said. The festival was officially launched by Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud and witnessed by senior management representatives from RAC, the National Heritage Department (JWN), Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) and Think City.

'The opening day of the festival was further enhanced with the second edition of the KL Heritage Tour, an engagement initiative aimed at reviewing the progress of conservation and activation efforts within heritage areas surrounding the station,' the statement said. RAC expressed hope that integrating the Heritage Tour programme would deepen public appreciation of the nation's history, culture and heritage through engaging experiences while breathing new life into Malaysia's railway heritage assets, which are among the oldest in Asia.

'As a railway network rich in historical significance, this heritage not only reflects the nation's development journey but also plays an important role in connecting communities and shaping Malaysia's identity. Through various programmes involving stakeholders and the public, RAC remains committed to enhancing the value of heritage spaces to ensure they remain relevant, dynamic and beneficial to the community,' it added.

The festival is open to the public and admission is free.
