Subang bestari: A comprehensive risk and safety assessment of the mechanical and electrical systems at HELP University's main campuses in Subang Bestari and Bukit Damansara has determined that the facilities are well maintained and safe for reoccupation and continued use.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the findings were confirmed following an audit conducted by the university's appointed engineering consultancy firm, CHT International. This audit was initiated after an air-conditioning gas explosion occurred at the Bukit Damansara campus on January 12.
In response to the incident, HELP University announced the establishment of an independent Safety Advisory Board. This board will consist of experienced safety professionals and subject-matter experts tasked with reviewing findings and recommendations from investigations conducted by the authorities, Forensic Services Malaysia, and CHT International. The board will provide guidance to enhance the university's safety framework with practical measures suitable for an educational environment.
The university is currently awaiting investigation reports from the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) and Forensic Services Malaysia concerning the cause of the compressor room explosion on January 12. Additionally, HELP University is collaborating with the building owner, Amanahraya REIT, and the building management, Knight Frank, to pinpoint the cause of the incident.
HELP University emphasized its commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of its campus community. The university plans to continue seeking expert advice and adhering to regulatory oversight to maintain a safe and conducive learning environment.
The explosion on January 12 tragically resulted in the death of a third-year Mechanical Engineering student from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) who was undergoing industrial training. Nine others, including four students, were also injured in the incident.
