Kuala lumpur: The Transport Ministry (MoT) will implement a ban on heavy vehicles on March 19 and 20, as well as March 28 and 29, in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Transport Minister Anthony Loke stated that the Road Transport Department (JPJ) has been instructed to ensure enforcement is at the highest level.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri period, there is often a sharp increase in road accidents that claim lives due to negligence and poor travel planning. In response, the MoT will enforce a road ban on heavy vehicles on the specified dates to mitigate these risks, as communicated by Loke during the MoT 2026 monthly assembly, Paduan Kasih MADANI, and Ihya Ramadan programme.
Loke also expressed hopes that Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) would increase passenger capacity and the number of trips to areas with high demand during Aidilfitri. He mentioned that next year, travelers to the East Coast could anticipate the ECRL service in addition to KTMB, which is expected to commence operations next year.
Furthermore, Loke highlighted that the MoT, through JPJ, will frequently monitor the land transport sector to ensure road safety and compliance remain at a high level. He emphasized the need for safe and orderly execution of additional permits for express buses and other transport services during the festive season.
In his address, Loke urged the public to prioritize safety when traveling back to their hometowns. He cautioned against turning the celebration marking the end of Ramadan into a tragedy due to impatience on the road, encouraging the public to prioritize public transport and for those driving, to check their vehicles and obey speed limits.
