Selangor: The Selangor Disaster Management Committee is prepared to distribute face masks to the public and civil servants in response to the ongoing haze situation impacting the region. This initiative aims to mitigate the effects of poor air quality on the population, particularly in areas registering the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) readings.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, State Public Health and Environment Committee chairman Jamaliah Jamaluddin announced that the distribution effort will prioritize vulnerable groups in Selangor. The action is intended as an additional protective measure against the haze's impacts. Jamaliah emphasized the importance of limiting physical and outdoor activities for high-risk groups, such as senior citizens and individuals with heart or respiratory issues, when API levels reach unhealthy thresholds.

She also advised the general public to reduce strenuous outdoor activities and stay indoors when air quality is suboptimal, while keeping informed about the latest API readings in their areas. The state government remains committed to closely monitoring the situation, ensuring public health, safety, and well-being are safeguarded.

Jamaliah stated that the state government will continue to obtain technical data and updates from relevant agencies, including the Department of Environment and the Malaysian Meteorological Department. This information will assist in determining necessary actions if air quality deteriorates further. The public is urged to refrain from activities that could exacerbate air pollution and to adhere to advisories and directives from authorities.

As of 4 pm today, six areas in Selangor recorded unhealthy API readings: Johan Setia (181), Shah Alam (168), Kuala Selangor (158), Petaling Jaya (157), Klang (156), and Banting (155).
