Johor bahru: Cloud seeding operations in Sarawak will continue, depending on wind patterns and the location of suitable clouds, to help reduce the haze in the state, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. He stated that these operations are based on advice from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid mentioned that the continuation of these operations would rely on the prevailing wind conditions and cloud cover. He emphasized that MetMalaysia's guidance is crucial in determining the timing and location for cloud seeding activities. This statement was made during a press conference after launching the national-level Orang Asli Sports Carnival (KSOA) 2026 at the EduCity Sports Complex.

Additionally, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi was present at the event. Ahmad Zahid, who is the chairman of the National Disaster Management Committee, highlighted that Kuching and Sri Aman are among the areas in Sarawak experiencing unhealthy air quality levels. He noted that the situation in Sri Aman has shown some improvement.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed optimism that cloud seeding operations would contribute to reducing the Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in Sarawak, especially with the Malaysia Day celebrations approaching in Kuching. As of 8 am today, the API readings for Kuching and Sri Aman stood at 235 and 216, respectively, indicating very unhealthy levels.
