Serian: The temporary closure of schools affected by haze in the Serian area has been extended until tomorrow (Friday). The Sarawak State Education Department (JPNS) said that the decision was made following a consultation session with principals and headmasters of secondary and primary schools under the supervision of the Serian District Education Office (PPD).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the decision was made to avoid burdening school administrators, teachers, parents, and especially students in boarding schools. JPNS stated that any changes or updated information will be communicated from time to time.
Educational institutions in the area are advised to remain vigilant and keep abreast of current developments by referring to the Air Pollution Index Management System (APIMS) to monitor the Air Pollution Index (API) levels in their respective areas or districts.
APIMS reported that Serian recorded an API of 178 as of 4 pm today, placing it in the unhealthy category due to cross-border haze.
