HAWANA 2025 Scheduled for June in Kuala Lumpur: Fahmi

Kuala Lumpur: The 2025 National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) celebration will be held in Kuala Lumpur in June, as confirmed by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. He shared that the specific date for the event will be announced in due course, ensuring ample time for preparations.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil mentioned that the Communications Ministry is currently reviewing several aspects regarding the organisation of HAWANA. “Insya-Allah, in conjunction with the celebration, we will make several major announcements that will benefit our colleagues from the media,” Fahmi stated during a press briefing. This announcement was made after he accompanied Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at a breaking of fast event with media practitioners at Angkasapuri.

The event was also attended by notable figures including Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, and Bernama editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.

Fahmi had previously indicated on January 23 that media organisations from across ASEAN would be invited to HAWANA 2025. This initiative aims to serve as a platform to enhance ties, foster cooperation, and address emerging challenges within the media industry. Additionally, media practitioners from ASEAN are expected to participate in several programmes linked to Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship this year.
