Hatyai Floods: Stranded Malaysians Grateful For Thai Citizens’ Concern, Care

Hatyai: Even though faced with the stressful conditions being stranded due to floods in Thailand, Malaysians there expressed their gratitude towards Thai citizens over their care and concern, especially towards a hotel that is offering free accommodation.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Cuti Cuti Langkawi Sdn Bhd general manager Dr Baharin Baharom, who is currently in Hatyai, said that the hotel management also provided free food for their stranded guests. However, after checking out of the hotel due to rising waters, Dr Baharom and others waited for boats that were reportedly on their way but did not arrive after three hours. The hotel’s lobby was evacuated as the water levels increased, despite its location on high ground.

The Malaysian embassy has been proactive in sending food supplies, particularly for the elderly and children. Dr Baharom noted that the hotel’s kitchen is flooded, which might impede their capacity to provide food in the future. Additionally, guests may face challenges keeping their mobile phones charged as the hotel’s generator is non-operational. He urged the Malaysian embassy or the Thai government to ensure the delivery of necessary medication for the elderly, particularly those with heart disease and hypertension.
