Kuala lumpur: National cycling stars Mohd Harrif Saleh and Nur Aisyah Mohamad Zubir will headline the inaugural Bank Rakyat EKVE Community Ride 2026, scheduled to take place along the East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE) on Aug 23.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Bank Rakyat chief marketing and communications officer Nizam Sani stated that the event aims to attract up to 2,500 participants. The ride promises cyclists a unique experience along the scenic highway, known for its challenging climbs and descents. Registrations, which opened on June 24, have already seen an encouraging response, with more than 1,400 participants confirmed, including cycling enthusiasts from six countries, such as Brazil.
The event will feature two categories: the 60-kilometre Challenge Ride and the 30km Community Ride. It is open to all types of bicycles, including folding, mountain, and electric bikes. However, 'basikal lajak' or brakeless modified bicycles are prohibited for safety reasons.
Meanwhile, EKVE senior operations manager Mohd Affendi Hussien mentioned that the highway will be closed from 4 am to noon on the day of the event. This measure ensures the safety of participants and provides a vehicle-free route throughout the ride.
Interested participants can register via checkpointspot.asia or Bank Rakyat's official website. Registrants will receive an exclusive race pack, which includes the official event jersey and a finisher's medal. The event is supported by the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) and EKVE management.
