Bandar baru bangi: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated today that Malaysia would face challenges in providing early support for the proposed establishment of a Board of Peace for Gaza without receiving clear and firm assurances regarding the welfare of the people of Palestine, particularly in Gaza.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar emphasized that Malaysia has communicated its stance and is closely monitoring the situation, but support remains contingent on receiving robust guarantees concerning the people of Gaza and Palestine. He highlighted that issues such as official recognition, a complete cessation of attacks by the Israeli regime, and the restoration of humanitarian aid have not been addressed, making it challenging for Malaysia to extend its early support.
Anwar further noted that Malaysia has chosen to adopt a cautious approach before supporting the establishment of the Board of Peace proposed by United States President Donald Trump, which aims to end the conflict in Gaza. The Prime Minister remarked that the government has not yet received comprehensive information regarding the board's formation.
President Trump announced the creation of a Board of Peace for Gaza on January 16 as a crucial component of the second phase of a plan to resolve the conflict in the Palestinian territory.
