Harbin Institute of Technology Expands Aerospace Science Education to Over 3,000 Students

Harbin:The Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) has successfully introduced aerospace science education to more than 3,000 students through an educational program conducted at 27 schools across regions including Guangxi, Yunnan, and Qinghai in China.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the initiative is part of HIT's 'Integrated Media Science Popularisation Series Entering Classrooms' campaign. This effort is led by the university's postgraduate volunteer teaching corps, which aims to enhance access to science education in areas where volunteers are stationed.

The program utilizes a combination of science popularisation books and metaverse-based courses, enabling students to explore simulated lunar and Martian bases with the help of 3D modelling and advanced technologies. Interactive activities such as question-and-answer sessions with AI agents and simulations of planetary rover route planning were also included.

One participant, Leng Xingsong, remarked that the books and courses provided a game-like learning experience, allowing him to understand the structure and functioning of planetary rovers interactively.

The science popularisation series is available in both Chinese and English, featuring topics such as robotic arms in space, China's Yutu and Zhurong rovers, and lunar soil sampling missions. HIT emphasized that the series integrates aerospace knowledge, engineering expertise, and educational resources, combining books, exhibition halls, multimedia videos, and metaverse courses to simplify complex scientific concepts.

The university stated that the initiative's goal is to bolster science education and inspire students' interest in aerospace and scientific research.
