Kuala lumpur: Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh congratulated national para athlete Mohamad Yusof Hafizi Shaharuddin for winning Malaysia’s first ever gold medal in the 2025 World Para Track Cycling Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamad Yusof was not only the world champion in the category MC1 200 metre (m) sprint but also the first para athlete to bring home the rainbow jersey. The Rainbow Jersey is the symbol of the prestigious cycling world championship. In a Facebook post, Hannah Yeoh expressed national pride for Mohamad Yusof and the entire Malaysian para track cycling team.
Mohamad Yusof secured his victory by beating Spaniard Ricardo Ten Argiles and neutral athlete Ivan Ermakov. This achievement marked his second medal at the tournament, following his silver in the MC1 category 1 kilometre event.
