Gua musang: Residents of Kampung Limau Kasturi, here, who live in low-lying areas and near the river, have been advised to evacuate early to avoid the risk of floods that are expected to begin this week.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Gua Musang District Police Chief, Supt Sik Choon Foo, said the measure was taken because the water level of the Sungai Galas (Galas River) shows an upward trend and is currently at the warning level. “The affected residents have been briefed verbally by security personnel in the village and advised to move to the Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) at Sekolah Kebangsaan Limau Kasturi,” he stated when contacted today.
The early evacuation process will receive cooperation from the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia, volunteers, and the Malaysia Civil Defence Force. Sik mentioned that his personnel had to persuade and advise some residents who were reluctant to move because the police want them to prioritize safety.
He further added that this action is taken considering the safety of the residents, given that the river water level continues to increase and is feared to approach the danger level.
