Malaysia's involvement in the upcoming Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 mission will see a more inclusive assembly of volunteers from a range of categories to enhance efforts to break Israel's naval blockade of Gaza, announced Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr. Zulkifli Hasan.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, preparations for the mission are currently in progress and details will be disclosed soon. Dr. Zulkifli emphasized the necessity for a comprehensive, well-organized, and efficient strategy to guarantee the mission's success.
"Today I met with GSF. Our discussion touched on their experience in organizing the previous GSF and how they are planning to break the siege in Gaza. Alhamdulillah, they are now also planning GSF (2.0), which will be a larger mission, involving more participants, more boats and, as they informed me earlier, they want more inclusive participation encompassing various religions, rac es, celebrities, and different segments of society," he stated.
Dr. Zulkifli made these remarks to reporters following a courtesy call from two international activists, Saif Abu Kesek and Kleoniki Alexopoulou, along with Cinta Gaza Malaysia CEO Nadhir al-Nuri, at his office.
He further mentioned that Malaysia is committed to fully supporting the upcoming GSF mission, with hopes of achieving its objectives to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches the people of Gaza. "We (Malaysia) are examining what form of cooperation we can undertake. In general, the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) has given his full support to this mission," he added.
Dr. Zulkifli clarified that the GSF mission aims not only to breach the Israeli blockade but also to send a critical message to the global community about the dire situation in Gaza. "The global community needs to witness the reality in Gaza, including injustice, war crimes, and actions of a genocidal nature. This message must be conveyed to the international community," he asserted.
Additionally, the mission plans to deliver humanitarian aid and deploy experts such as doctors, medical specialists, and teachers to aid and support the reconstruction efforts in Gaza.
In a previous attempt last September, GSF involved hundreds of international activists, including 34 volunteers from Malaysia, in an effort to breach the Israeli naval blockade and express solidarity with the people of Gaza. However, on October 1, approximately 41 vessels participating in the mission were intercepted by Israeli forces, leading to the activists being detained at Ketziot Prison in Israel before their deportation to respective countries.
