The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) steering committee, in collaboration with the Sumud Nusantara movement, is preparing to initiate its second humanitarian mission in mid-year, specifically during the spring season. The mission aims to address the ongoing delays and blockades imposed by Israel on the entry of humanitarian aid, highlighting the intensifying conflict in the region.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the director-general of the Sumud Nusantara Control Centre (SNCC), Datuk Dr Sani Araby Abdul Alim Araby, emphasized the need for international pressure as a last resort to address the situation in Gaza. He expressed these concerns during the GSF 2.0 Roundtable Discussion: Breaking The Siege at Wisma MAPIM today. Sani Araby, who also serves as the chief executive officer of the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (MAPIM), stressed the importance of global attention to translate calls for action into diplomatic policy.
<P >Three members of the GSF steering committee, Thiago Avila, Kleoniki Alexopoulou, and Saif Abukesyek, participated as panelists in the roundtable discussion, moderated by Cinta Gaza Malaysia CEO Muhammad Nadir Al-Nuri Kamaruzaman. Although the exact launch date of the mission remains undisclosed for security reasons, Sani Araby expressed hope for increased participation compared to the previous mission, which saw representatives from 45 countries. The mission aims to raise global public awareness and encourage governments, NGOs, and world leaders to join forces in rejecting the actions of the Zionist regime. This initiative follows the September mission of GSF, where hundreds of international activists, including 34 Malaysian volunteers, attempted to break Israel's naval blockade by delivering food and medicine to Gaza. Despite their efforts, all 41 vessels were intercepted by Israeli forces, and the activists were detained before being deported.
Sani Araby anticipates t he conflict may escalate over the coming months, coinciding with the mid-year mission timeline. He emphasized the importance of serious efforts to halt the violence and ensure unobstructed delivery of humanitarian aid to the affected region.
