Grab Malaysia Celebrates National Day with Gig Workers Parade in Putrajaya

Putrajaya: Continuing last year’s tradition, Grab Malaysia will proudly celebrate the spirit of unity with a 100-member contingent comprising senior management and employees in this year’s National Day parade in Putrajaya tomorrow. Nearly 200 Grab employees, driver-partners, and delivery-partners will also take part in state-level celebrations in Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, Kuantan, and Penang.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Grab Malaysia managing director Adelene Foo stated that this year’s National Day theme, ‘Malaysia MADANI: Rakyat Disantuni’, not only embodies the nation’s spirit of independence but also empowers Malaysians in their daily lives while supporting their journey toward a better future. She emphasized the importance of recognizing the contributions of driver- and delivery-partners, as well as the teams working behind the scenes to ensure the platform functions effectively for everyone.

Grab Group chief executive officer and co-founder Anthony Tan attended the full dress rehearsal in Putrajaya on August 29. He celebrated the spirit of togetherness, cheering on participating drivers and delivery partners, wishing them luck, and expressing gratitude for their contributions to the country.

Grab Malaysia highlighted that its Putrajaya parade contingent will feature three persons with disabilities who have been earning a living through the platform. Niyaz Naathan Vellasamy, one of Grab’s longest-serving wheelchair-user driver-partners, shared his experiences of achieving financial stability and building meaningful community connections through Grab.

Chang Yoon Khim and his wife, both hearing-impaired, have supported their family for the past seven years through Grab, demonstrating the power of determination. Wheelchair-user and single mother Teong Siew Queen expressed appreciation for the platform’s inclusivity and flexible hours, which allow her to manage her schedule effectively.

Grab also shared the story of delivery-partner Masnizah Marzukir, a single mother of seven, who has overcome financial challenges with the platform’s support. Contributors like Shanlee Tan Shamsuri Tan, who guides new driver-partners, and Fun Kheng Yuen from Ipoh, who has improved GrabMaps’ accuracy, were also highlighted for their significant contributions.

To enhance the National Day celebration, Grab is setting up a booth in Putrajaya offering lucky draws, exclusive merchandise, and free vouchers.
