Govt Weighs Increasing STR and SARA Assistance Amid Economic Outlook

Kuala lumpur: The MADANI Government is contemplating an increase in assistance for the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) schemes, contingent on favorable economic conditions, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced. The decision will be considered during the upcoming Budget discussions.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim shared that this proposal was deliberated with Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Johan Mahmood Merican recently. "Our ongoing efforts aim to assess the feasibility of enhancing aid for STR and SARA recipients, should economic conditions permit," Anwar stated at the MADANI KITA Together with the Tambun Community Programme, organized by the Malaysian Volunteer Corps Department (RELA).

The Prime Minister also emphasized the government's commitment to the welfare of security personnel, including members of RELA, acknowledging their critical role in managing the nation's security crises and disasters. Anwar noted, "Last year, we allocated RM3 million for RELA, but that amount falls short of adequately supporting their welfare. Thus, we are continuing the programme with a renewed allocation of RM3 million this year."

Also in attendance at the event were Home Ministry deputy secretary-general (security) Datuk Abdul Halim Abdul Rahman and RELA director-general Datuk Rosli Yaakub.
