Govt to Finalise New Agriculture Policy for Enhanced Food Security

Kuala lumpur: The government is considering and finalising a new policy on the agriculture sector as a proactive response to the increasingly complex challenges of food security through an integrated, mission-driven, and evidence-based approach. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the policy will focus on efficient and productive agricultural and agro-food production, sustainability of the agro-food system, regional food diplomacy, healthy and balanced nutrition, and inclusive economic growth.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Prime Minister emphasized that the policy will be reinforced with specific legislation to coordinate and standardize the implementation of policies and actions across various agencies and ministries involved. He stated, “This step is important to strengthen governance as well as ensure the effectiveness of the overall implementation of the National Food Security Policy,” in a Facebook post.

In conjunction with the implementation of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), Prime Minister Anwar highlighted the need for a strengthened agricultural sector through a new approach that is more sustainable, resilient, and technology-oriented. Earlier, he chaired the Cabinet Committee Meeting on the National Food Security Policy, which focused on strategies to catalyse the agricultural industry holistically.
