Govt to Announce Measures for Competitive Semiconductor Industry at ASEAN Summit

Kuala lumpur: The government is preparing to announce a series of proactive measures at the upcoming ASEAN Semiconductor Summit (ASEMIS) 2025 to ensure that Malaysia’s semiconductor industry remains competitive. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will deliver a keynote address at the event, marking the first anniversary of the National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Anwar, who also serves as the finance minister, chaired the third National Investment Council (MPN) meeting for 2025, detailing the progress of the NSS over the past year. The NSS, launched on May 28 last year, aims to bolster Malaysia’s position within the global semiconductor supply chain.

Anwar emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening the local semiconductor industry through various fiscal assistance programs. These initiatives reflect the MADANI Government’s dedication to advancing the national semiconductor sector.

During the MPN meeting, Anwar underscored the importance of formulating responsive and data-driven policies to ensure that incoming investments benefit the country and its citizens over the long term. Among the NSS’s key objectives is the development of 110 local companies engaged in high-value activities, which is a critical component of Malaysia’s strategy to enhance its competitive edge in the industry.
