Government to Sustain Media Innovation Fund, Says PM Anwar

Butterworth: The government has decided to sustain the Media Innovation Fund to support local media organisations in implementing innovation initiatives and advancing the digital transformation of the industry, announced Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The initiative reflects a continued commitment to bolster the media sector's adaptation to new technological demands.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the government had previously allocated RM30 million for the Media Innovation Fund, an initiative announced during the National Journalists' Day (HAWANA) last year. Anwar, who also serves as the Finance Minister, revealed that a total of 72 media companies have benefited from the fund, receiving a combined total of RM24.57 million.

Anwar assured that the allocation is prepared for ongoing usage and emphasized plans to increase the fund, ensuring it remains uninterrupted and adequate. 'So, this is the good news. Keep up the good work,' he stated while officiating the HAWANA 2026 highlight event at the PICCAArena Butterworth Convention Centre, an event that was also broadcast live on Bernama TV.

The Media Innovation Fund was created to support the media industry's transformation through innovative projects, focusing on content development, media technology, and digital strategies. The fund also aims to train media practitioners, produce creative and interactive content, and enhance the dissemination of accurate and relevant information to the public.
