Government to Enhance Fuel Subsidy Program in Sabah and Sarawak Based on Public Input

Kuala lumpur: The government is set to further refine its approach to implementing targeted fuel subsidies in the regions of Sabah and Sarawak, with an emphasis on incorporating grassroots feedback. This announcement was made by Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department overseeing Sabah and Sarawak.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Minister emphasized that continuous discussions are being held with stakeholders, including state and federal agencies, to ensure the smooth execution of the initiative. The aim is to implement the program effectively without disrupting the quality of life for residents, particularly those in rural communities.

Mustapha highlighted that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has actively engaged with the public to better understand the obstacles encountered during the rollout of the BUDI Diesel initiative in Sabah. "Alhamdulillah, thank you to the Prime Minister. Despite his busy official schedule, he still made time to personally hear the grassroots' views on the challenges faced in implementing the BUDI Diesel initiative, especially in Sabah," Mustapha stated on his Facebook page.

Reaffirming the government's commitment to public involvement, he added, "Upholding the principle that 'the voice of the people is a sacred voice,' the concerns of the people, whether in urban or rural areas, will always be heard by the MADANI Government. Let us continue to take care of Malaysia together."

Implemented nationwide from July 1, the BUDI Diesel initiative allows eligible private diesel vehicle owners to receive a base quota of 200 liters per month at a subsidized rate of RM2.10 per liter. Additionally, qualifying sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and pickup truck owners can apply for an extra 100 liters per month, provided they meet specified criteria.
