Kuala lumpur: The government has announced that the BUDI MADANI Diesel (BUDI Diesel) assistance will remain at RM300 per month for April, aiming to mitigate the effects of global energy market fluctuations.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Ministry of Finance (MoF) communicated in a statement that the additional interim assistance of RM100 will be sustained, totaling the aid for BUDI Individual and BUDI Agri-Commodities categories at RM300. This aid, set to be distributed starting April 8, is expected to benefit approximately 340,000 recipients, with an allocation nearing RM102 million.
Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that the decision underscores the government's commitment to alleviating the rising cost of living pressures attributed to increasing global fuel prices. The MoF highlighted that this measure ensures diesel users, especially those in individual and agri-commodity sectors, continue receiving support, shielding them from the full brunt of global price hikes.
Since its inception in May 2024, the BUDI Diesel programme has disbursed RM1.12 billion, aimed at reducing the financial strain on the population. The ministry also noted that the targeted approach of the initiative ensures aid reaches the most in need, while maintaining fiscal discipline amidst ongoing global pressures.
Besides the interim aid, the government is exploring medium- and long-term strategies to maintain a subsidy system that is sustainable, transparent, and advantageous to the public. The government will keep a vigilant eye on global energy market trends and is prepared to take additional measures to ensure a stable and sufficient fuel supply. Furthermore, enforcement efforts will be intensified to prevent leakages and ensure subsidies reach their intended beneficiaries.
