Government Prioritizes Infrastructure for Felda Settlers, Says Deputy PM

Kuala Lumpur: The government is committed to developing infrastructure to provide access to housing areas for the second to fourth generations of Felda settlers, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid emphasized the government’s recognition of the critical housing needs for these groups and assured that federal assistance would be prioritized. Discussions with the Ministry of Finance are anticipated to deliberate on the necessary allocation for these infrastructure projects.

Ahmad Zahid expressed gratitude to the state governments of Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Johor, and Perak for their efforts in addressing the housing needs of Felda settlers but noted their requests for federal funding for access infrastructure. “We will pursue this, InsyaAllah,” he stated to reporters after attending the ‘Lembaran Kasih Aidilfitri’ celebration with the Felda community at Padang Awam Palong 3.

The event was also attended by the son of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, His Highness Tunku Zain Al-‘Abidin Tuanku Muhriz, and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun. Ahmad Zahid, who also serves as the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, mentioned that his ministry is dedicated to addressing issues faced by the Felda community, despite Felda being under the Prime Minister’s Department.

He further stated, “The government is also committed to settling Felda’s debts. During the budget session, the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim highlighted that nearly RM1 billion is allocated annually by the Finance Ministry for this purpose.”
