Government Nears Final Decision on RON95 Fuel Subsidy Eligibility

Kuala lumpur: The government is in the final stage of concluding eligibility criteria and implementation methods for RON95 fuel subsidies with stakeholders, Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said. He stated that the subsidy targeting mechanism would be carefully designed to ensure the majority of eligible citizens are not affected.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the government is collaborating with petrol station operators to ensure the MyKad payment system can be used at pumps once the RON95 subsidy is rolled out at the end of this month. Amir Hamzah informed the Senate during a session on Monday, responding to Senator Rose Suryati Alang’s question about the latest approach to fuel subsidies and the smoothness of their implementation.

Amir Hamzah, who also serves as the Economy Minister, mentioned that the government would utilise data from the Central Database Hub (Padu) system to determine eligibility, ensuring that only those truly qualified would benefit. He assured that the announcement and implementation would occur at the end of the month, guaranteeing that eligible citizens would receive the intended subsidies.
