Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the government will develop low-rental housing for civil servants in response to increasing rent burdens faced by this group.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar, who also serves as the Finance Minister, observed significant rental challenges for civil servants during his visits to Penang, Perak, Johor, and Negeri Sembilan. He stated, "We will develop housing for civil servants with cheap rent," emphasizing the government's commitment to alleviating financial pressure on families.
While acknowledging recent salary increases of 15 to 30 percent for civil servants, Anwar highlighted that escalating rental rates continue to pose problems in cities such as Johor Bahru, Kuala Lumpur, Seremban, and Ipoh. Government-owned land has already been identified to facilitate this housing initiative.
Anwar also mentioned that these housing projects would cater to various government departments, including customs and police, whenever land becomes available. Earlier in the day, Anwar engaged with approximately 1,200 congregants at Jameatus Solehah Mosque, following Friday prayers led by Muhammad Asyraf Kamaluddin.
