Kuala lumpur: The government has agreed to increase the allocation to the Malaysian Indian Community Transformation Unit (MITRA) from RM100 million previously to RM150 million, as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. This decision reflects the agency's effective implementation of Indian community development programs.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Prime Minister stated that the decision was made following a government assessment of the effectiveness of various MITRA programs targeted at Indian community groups needing assistance, particularly in education, training, and socio-economic development. Anwar emphasized the importance of ensuring that the funds reach the groups in need, with MITRA's programs bringing together Indian scholars and representatives of Indian associations.
Anwar shared these updates during an engagement session with Indian students at Universiti Malaya, where Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R Ramanan was also present. He reaffirmed the MADANI Government's commitment to equitable aid and development programs for all citizens, regardless of race, acknowledging the ongoing issues of poverty and marginalization within the Indian community.
The government also prioritizes the governance of MITRA funds to ensure effective distribution to the target groups. Anwar highlighted that MITRA's programs not only focus on welfare assistance but also provide educational and technical training opportunities for Indian youth. Additionally, he announced an extra RM50 million allocation for MITRA to support educational pursuits.
During the event, Anwar presented assistance for further studies at higher education institutions and MADANI devices to selected students, underscoring the government's dedication to supporting the community's educational advancement.
