Jakarta:The government has decided to increase financial assistance for disaster victims aimed at home repairs from RM5,000 to RM10,000. This announcement was made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the tabling of Budget 2027, themed "Reaching for the Sky, Rooted in the Ground," in the Dewan Rakyat.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, The budget allocates RM260 million to the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) for the coming year. Additionally, 17 amphibious craft will be acquired to enhance rescue operations by the Civil Defence Force.
The GLC For Rakyat and Nation (GDRN) initiative, led by government-linked investment companies and government-linked companies foundations, will continue to support disaster victims with a RM20 million matching grant.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who also serves as Finance Minister, noted that the government has successfully completed six Flood Mitigation Plan (RTB) projects, amounting to RM336 million. Currently, 82 RTB projects are on track, with new projects planned for 2027, including Kuching City RTB, Phase Two of the Sungai Golok Integrated River Basin project in Kelantan, and the Sungai Kemaman project in Terengganu.
Furthermore, nearly RM320 million has been allocated for the repair and upgrading of slopes, drains, and ditches in local authority areas across the nation.
