Government Explores Economic Security Framework for Crisis Resilience

Kuala lumpur: The government is considering establishing an economic security framework to enhance the nation's resilience against future crises, stated Nurhisham Hussein, the economic advisor to the Prime Minister's Office. Although this proposal is part of a larger reform agenda, it has not yet been presented to the Cabinet.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nurhisham emphasized the need for such a framework during a plenary session at the Bank Negara Malaysia's Sasana Symposium 2026. The recent global crises have highlighted vulnerabilities in the country's supply chain, prompting discussions on creating a dedicated team to address these issues.

The Sasana Symposium 2026, under the theme "Reforms for Resilience: Navigating Uncertainties," is being held from July 28-29. It covers various economic and financial topics, including economic resilience, wages, cost of living challenges, investments, energy security, Islamic finance, and private healthcare costs.

Additionally, Nurhisham mentioned that Malaysia is actively seeking ways to attract investments amid global disruptions. The country has gained considerably from the 'China Plus One' strategy over the last few years, especially in manufacturing investments. However, with companies now embracing a 'World Plus One' strategy, there are new opportunities for Malaysia to attract investments from regions beyond China, such as West Asia, as global supply chains continue to evolve.
