Kuala Lumpur: The government is examining the necessity of restructuring the nation’s current healthcare financing system to secure its sustainability, inclusivity, and effectiveness as outlined in the Health White Paper, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today. In a Facebook post, Anwar highlighted that this issue was a central topic during the 8th meeting of the Malaysian Social Protection Council (MySPC) 2025, which he led this morning.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the meeting saw participation from six Cabinet ministers and senior civil service officials. Anwar emphasized the importance of effective governance, procurement processes, and implementation mechanisms for successful reform. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts from various ministries, especially the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Finance.
The discussion concentrated on a phased roadmap and transformation initiatives for the healthcare financing system, including a proposal to establish a National Health Fund. The meeting also featured a presentation of the National Ageing Action Framework 2025-2045 by the Ministry of Economy, which detailed the strategic response to the challenges of an ageing population.
Anwar acknowledged the preliminary measures being taken, particularly the importance of a comprehensive, cross-ministerial governance mechanism to ensure a more integrated response.
