Kuala Lampur:The Ministry of Finance (MoF) has announced that the government will persist in taking legal action and enhancing international cooperation to maximize the recovery of misappropriated assets from 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB). This initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden on the country and protect the people's interests.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, As of August 31, 2026, the government has disbursed RM42.5 billion to meet commitments associated with 1MDB, including principal payments, interest, legal fees, and operational costs. The Ministry of Finance indicated that without additional fund recovery, the government would still need to address a remaining obligation of RM20.1 billion.
In response to a query from Azli Yusof (PH-Shah Alam) about measures following the Auditor General Report on public fund leakages, the status of national asset recovery related to major financial scandals, and the re-management of recovered funds, the MoF emphasized that the primary focus of asset recovery is centered on 1MDB. The government has successfully recovered RM31.3 billion in assets related to 1MDB thus far.
