Kuala lumpur: The government is awaiting feedback from Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace AS (KDA), the supplier of Naval Strike Missile (NSM) systems, regarding its claim following the cancellation of the procurement for the weapon system. Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the government would consider further action once it received the company's response.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, discussions have been held with the supplier, and a claim has been submitted. Mohamed Khaled stated that the government is waiting for KDA's response before referring the matter for further consideration and a decision. This was conveyed during a press conference after launching the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign at the Ministry of Defence.

Mohamed Khaled elaborated that the ministry is working to resolve issues involving the supply of the missiles for the Littoral Combat Ships (LCS). He assured that updates on the delivery schedule would be shared with the media when available.

The Norwegian government was previously reported to have cancelled the export licence for NSM anti-ship missiles to Malaysia, as well as the associated launcher systems, citing the need to protect its national security. According to the Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace AS (KDA) website, the NSM procurement agreement between the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) and KDA was signed in April 2018, with a contract value of £124 million (RM571.9 million) to equip six new LCS.
