Government Announces Major Overhaul of Foreign Worker Management System

Kuala lumpur: The government will restructure the management of foreign workers in the country to ensure it is more coordinated, efficient, and aligned with industry needs, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the decision was made during a special meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Foreign Workers, chaired by Ahmad Zahid at Parliament. The meeting reached several key decisions, including updates to the membership and terms of reference of the committee.

Ahmad Zahid stated that the One Stop Centre for Foreign Worker Management would now fall under the Ministry of Human Resources' supervision. The goal is to enhance efficiency and integrity in managing foreign workers while balancing industry needs, national security, and local employment opportunities.

The Deputy Prime Minister further mentioned that the government plans to review foreign labour requirements strategically, based on the actual needs of industries. In addition, the government is committed to reducing reliance on foreign workers by boosting local workforce participation, strengthening skilled labour, and promoting industrial automation.

He emphasized that all government measures regarding foreign worker management would be guided by national interests and the wellbeing of the people.
