Government Announces 50 Per Cent Toll Discount for Aidilfitri Travelers

Kuala Lumpur: The government has unveiled a 50 per cent toll discount for highway travel on March 28 and 29 to coincide with Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations. Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi disclosed that the financial responsibility of compensating the highway concessionaires will cost the government approximately RM19.69 million.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the decision was made during a Cabinet meeting, where it was agreed to implement the discount from 12:01 am on March 28 (Friday) to 11:59 pm on March 29. Nanta emphasized the two-day discount period allows motorists to avoid rushing and plan their journeys effectively. This announcement came during a press conference after he inspected maintenance work by a federal road concessionaire in Ayer Keroh.

The discount is specifically for Class 1 private vehicles at all toll plazas, with exceptions at national border checkpoints, including the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) Toll Plaza on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) and the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza on the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link Expressway (LINKEDUA). The initiative is part of the MADANI government’s ongoing effort to offer toll assistance during major festive periods since 2023.

Nanta reiterated that this measure aligns with the MADANI government’s principles of Well-being and Compassion, aiming to alleviate living costs for the populace. He urged all highway users to take advantage of the discount and plan their journeys wisely to prevent traffic congestion during the extended holiday period.

Motorists are also advised to adhere to travel time advisories from highway concessionaires, ensure adequate eWallet and Touch ‘n Go card balances, and utilize the Malaysian Highway Authority’s CCTV live feed for real-time traffic updates.
