Ipoh: The government has approved an allocation of RM34.81 million to carry out minor repair works at 137 pondok and tahfiz schools across the country. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that this funding would address immediate repairs of essential facilities, including roofs, toilets, and classrooms, to provide a more comfortable learning environment for students at these institutions.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar emphasized the need to prioritize schools in poor condition, including eight in Perak, for these repairs. He stated that the government is focusing on this initiative following the tabling of Budget 2026, with plans to further increase allocations to ensure that every school receives the necessary facilities.
Anwar highlighted the government’s commitment to balancing physical progress with spiritual growth and education, aligning with the MADANI human capital development vision. As part of this policy, the MADANI government has reinstated financial assistance to sekolah agama rakyat, which had been discontinued since 2003.
The Prime Minister also urged pondok and tahfiz institutions to adapt to modern technological advancements, such as digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI), to maintain their relevance in a rapidly changing global landscape. He stressed the importance of integrating these technologies into the curriculum without disrupting traditional teachings.
Moreover, Anwar clarified that while the government does not intend to alter the traditional pondok education system, it aims to enhance facilities like libraries and science laboratories, allowing students to gain exposure to modern fields of study. He also announced a RM2.6 billion allocation under Budget 2026 to strengthen Islamic educational institutions, empower mosques, and expand the understanding of Islam, demonstrating the government’s commitment to upholding Islamic teachings in national development.
