Kuala lumpur: The government has committed to maintaining fuel subsidies, which are now expected to reach RM3.2 billion monthly, in a bid to support public welfare. Finance Minister II, Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, announced that despite the increased expenditure on subsidies, the prices of RON95 petrol and diesel will remain unchanged as part of the BUDI95 initiative.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the monthly petrol subsidy has surged to RM2 billion, with the diesel subsidy increasing to RM1.2 billion, significantly up from the previous total of RM700 million per month. This increase comes as the government navigates the challenges posed by rising global oil prices.
Finance Minister II stated, "Even though the MADANI Government is dealing with the effects of rising global oil prices, the government will continue to take steps to ensure people are supported, and we are able to maintain the BUDI95 initiative, which provides some relief for the public." He emphasized that the government is equipped to handle this financial strain due to reforms and fiscal consolidation efforts undertaken during the MADANI government's three-year tenure.
The announcement followed a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, where the commitment to sustaining public welfare through targeted subsidies was reinforced.
