Government Allocates RM200 Million for Islamic Educational Institutions in 2027

Baku:The government has earmarked RM200 million for sekolah agama rakyat, tahfiz institutions, and pondok schools in 2027, broadening the scope of assistance to include operational costs.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Marhamah Rosli stated that this allocation was announced in the 2027 Budget presented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last Friday.

As of April 30, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) had distributed RM22.5 million from a special Federal Government allocation to 309 registered Islamic educational institutions across the country for maintenance and upgrade works. Since May 2026, the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister's Department (ICU JPM) has coordinated the disbursement of these funds in stages.

Marhamah was addressing a question in the Dewan Rakyat regarding the status of maintenance allocations and Federal Government assistance for Islamic educational institutions posed by Datuk Ahmad Saad @ Yahaya (PN-Pokok Sena). In response to a supplementary query from Aminolhuda Hassan (PH-Sri Gading) about the funding scope, she clarified that the allocation covers safety, infrastructure maintenance and upgrades, fire prevention, electrical wiring, building improvements, and plumbing systems.

These enhancements aim to provide more comprehensive support for Islamic educational institutions, ensuring all eligible institutions benefit from the allocation.
