Golden Tigers Celebrate RM160,000 Reward for Asian Games Success

Siena:The national men's sepak takraw team, known as the Golden Tigers, has been rewarded with RM160,000 following their success at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, where they secured one gold and one silver medal.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Malaysian Sepak Takraw Association (PSM) allocated the prize money to 12 players and two coaches. In addition to the cash reward, they also received gold bars and shopping vouchers from Telekom Malaysia (TM Group), a strategic partner.

PSM president Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan emphasized the association's proactive stance, choosing to raise funds independently to acknowledge the team's efforts, rather than relying solely on government rewards. He noted that this marks a significant moment in Malaysian sepak takraw history, as players are being recognized with a considerable sum.

At the National Sepak Takraw Squad appreciation ceremony, which took place in the capital, notable attendees included Olympic Council of Malaysia deputy president Datuk Nur Azmi Ahmad, MSN director-general Jefri Ngadirin, and National Sports Institute CEO Dr. P. Vellapandian. Mohd Sumali hinted at the possibility of larger allocations in the future, depending on the association's financial situation.

National chief server Mohammad Syahir Mohd Rosdi expressed gratitude for the unexpected incentive, acknowledging PSM's voluntary gesture. He estimated that each team member might receive approximately RM10,000 and anticipated additional incentives under the National Sports Victory Reward Scheme (SHAKAM).

The Golden Tigers ended a 36-year wait for the team regu gold medal by defeating Thailand 2-0 in the final and secured a silver medal in the men's regu event after a 0-2 loss to the same opponents.
