Kuala lumpur: The General Operations Force (GOF) seized 200,000 sticks of untaxed cigarettes and a car worth a total of RM400,000 during Op Taring Wawasan Kelantan in Kampung Kok Bedullah, Tumpat, early today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, GOF Southeast Brigade commander SAC Ahmad Radzi Hussain stated that the seizure occurred around 2 am. The operation was executed by the Strike Force from Company C, GOF Battalion 9, Kuala Terengganu, in collaboration with the Kelantan Royal Malaysian Customs Department.

He detailed that GOF personnel on motorcycle patrol noticed a suspicious Proton Preve car in Kampung Geting, prompting the driver to flee for approximately two kilometers.

"The vehicle eventually crashed into an irrigation canal in Kampung Kok Bedullah, after which the driver escaped. Upon inspection, several gunny sacks containing 200,000 sticks of suspected untaxed cigarettes were discovered," he explained in a statement.

Ahmad Radzi further mentioned that the seized items included the vehicle, valued at RM26,000, and contraband cigarettes worth RM374,000. The confiscated items have been handed over to the Pengkalan Kubor Customs Office for further action under Section 135(1)(e) of the Customs Act 1967.

He also noted that investigations are currently underway to locate the fugitive suspect and determine the registered owner of the vehicle.
