GOF Seizes Smuggled Cattle in Tanah Merah

Tanah Merah: A team from the 8th Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF) seized a total of 20 cattle believed to have been smuggled from Thailand in Kampung Lalang Pepuyu, Tanah Merah, yesterday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Southeast Brigade GOF commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid stated that the team intercepted a suspicious-looking Hino lorry driven by a 31-year-old man at approximately 4.45 pm. Upon inspection, they discovered 20 cattle with a combined weight of about 10,000 kilogrammes.

“None of the cattle had any documentation and are suspected to have been smuggled from the neighbouring country. The man is believed to be responsible for transporting the animals to the local market,” he mentioned in a statement today.

The total estimated value of the cattle seizure is RM160,000. The case is currently under investigation, falling under Section 36(1) of the Animals Act 1953.
