Padang besar: The General Operations Force (GOF) seized 2,646 cartons of frozen chicken feet worth RM317,520 in a foiled smuggling attempt near the Duty-Free Complex on Jalan Baru Sadao, Padang Besar last Friday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Northern Brigade GOF Commander SAC Shahrum Hashim stated that the operation was executed by the 18th Battalion under ‘Op Taring Wawasan Kedah/Perlis’, following a tip-off about suspicious activity in the vicinity.
During the operation, officers discovered a Volvo container lorry transferring cargo to two Thailand-registered pickup trucks. A thorough search of the vehicles revealed the frozen poultry products, which were believed to be destined for a neighbouring country.
In total, three vehicles were seized-the lorry and both pickups-bringing the overall value of the confiscation to RM1.42 million.
The lorry driver, a 48-year-old local man, was arrested to assist in the ongoing investigation. All seized items and the suspect have been handed over to the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (MAQIS) for further action.
