Klang: Malaysia’s largest wholesale centre, GM Klang Wholesale City, has officially extended its operating hours to 10 am until 10 pm daily, effective tonight. The launch of the new operating hours was officiated by the Royal Klang City Council (MBDK) Mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain, witnessed by GM Klang managing director Datuk Lim Seng Kok and Tourism Selangor chief executive officer Chua Yee Ling.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, previously, GM Klang operated from 10 am to 7 pm on weekdays and from 10 am to 8 pm on weekends and public holidays. Lim said the decision was made after careful consideration and based on feedback from customers, wholesalers, and strategic partners. “The move reflects our commitment to GM Klang’s vision of becoming a one-stop wholesale centre and the most comprehensive trade hub in Southeast Asia,” he said in his speech at the launch of GM Klang’s new operating hours and the Ceritera Selangor programme at the wholesale centre today.
Lim highlighted that the initiative would also strengthen the local economy, support state tourism campaigns, and position Klang as a vibrant day-and-night destination. Also launched today was Dataran GM Klang, a new event space that will serve as a venue for community, cultural, and entrepreneurial activities. He mentioned the expansion comes at the right time, considering the rapid development around Bandar Botanik, including the upcoming Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) project, which is expected to boost visitor traffic to the area.
As part of the symbolic celebration, GM Klang, in collaboration with the Selangor Department of Culture and Arts, Tourism Selangor, and MBDK, hosted Ceritera Selangor, a cultural showcase highlighting the state’s diverse heritage. “This initiative is not merely for entertainment but also supports the Visit Selangor Year 2025 campaign, in line with GM Klang’s role as one of Klang City’s tourism ambassadors,” Lim explained. The two-hour performance featured traditional dances, Mah Meri and Cempuling performances, and other cultural elements that reflected the state’s unique identity.
Further strengthening its business ecosystem, GM Klang signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with six new strategic partners in the recreation, sports, and lifestyle sectors to expand lifestyle offerings at the wholesale centre. Lim noted that GM Klang recently received the Gold Award under the Malaysia Tourism Quality Assurance (MyTQA) programme, underscoring its commitment to service excellence and continuous improvement of facilities and the overall visitor experience.
To celebrate the new operating hours, GM Klang unveiled several initiatives, including Night Crazy Deals, which feature exclusive promotions starting at 7 pm daily, and the Monthly Lucky Night Draw: Shop and Win, offering prizes such as motorcycles, washing machines, dryers, and 55-inch smart TVs. The wholesale centre also launched Rioooh Malam Sabtu, a weekly themed evening event designed to provide visitors with unique experiences and engaging weekend entertainment.
