Global Sumud Flotilla Faces Imminent Risk of Interception in Yellow Zone

Kuala lumpur: The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) mission is set to enter the Yellow Zone soon, confronting a significant risk of interception by Israeli forces, according to Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi revealed that the current status of the 47 ships and 34 Malaysians involved in the mission was communicated by Datuk Dr Sani Araby Abdul Alim Araby, the CEO of the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations, at the Sumud Nusantara Operations Centre. Past experiences have shown that the zone, beginning 300 nautical miles from Gaza, has frequently been a site of harassment incidents by the Zionist regime, a pattern expected to persist with the GSF.

“This is a critical moment where the possibility of an interception by the Israeli side is highly likely,” Fahmi stated during a press conference following a briefing on the mission. He noted the historical incidents in Tunisia and other disruptions, suggesting similar occurrences might transpire in the Yellow Zone.

Fahmi emphasized that the government, through the Foreign Ministry, is actively monitoring the mission to ensure the safety of all Malaysians involved, with Wisma Putra prepared to update on any new developments. He affirmed the government’s full support for the GSF and Sumud Nusantara initiatives, highlighting a pivotal moment where global silence on Israeli and Zionist regime actions is no longer acceptable.

During his visit, Fahmi received an in-depth briefing on the mission’s status and engaged in a video call with seven Malaysians participating in the initiative. The GSF’s journey across the Mediterranean Sea aims to deliver food supplies, medicine, and a peace message, advocating for the cessation of war and famine crises and the establishment of a humanitarian corridor to Gaza.
