Global South Calls for G20’s Decisive Action on Gaza, Sudan, and Ukraine – PM Anwar

Kuala lumpur: The Global South expects the G20 to be unequivocal in its resolve to end the atrocities and ongoing colonisation in Gaza, as well as the conflicts in Sudan and Ukraine, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today. He noted that these expectations are particularly pressing given that the G20 Leaders’ Summit is being held in South Africa, a nation that has endured some of the harshest experiences of apartheid and colonisation.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, South Africa is the first African country to preside over the G20, which adds a layer of historical resonance to the summit’s proceedings. Prime Minister Anwar highlighted that the Global South is keenly observing the G20’s commitment to promoting a just and fair agenda. He emphasized the need for the G20 to take a decisive stance on ending the ongoing violence and colonisation in Gaza, resolving the civil conflict in Sudan, and seeking a peaceful resolution to the war in Ukraine.

During his intervention at Session 1 of the summit, titled ‘Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Growth Leaving No One Behind: Building Our Economies; the Role of Trade; Financing for Development; and the Debt Burden’, Anwar reiterated the urgency for the G20 to address these issues. He called for an unwavering commitment to resolving these conflicts, reflecting the high expectations from countries in the Global South for the G20 to act decisively and inclusively.
