Glasgow 2026: Excellent Day For Lawn Bowling With Wins For Izzat Shameer, Women’s Pair

Glasgow: Malaysia's lawn bowlers had an excellent day today as Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple eked out a slim win while women's pair Aleena Ahmad Nawawi-Syafiqa Haidar Afif Abdul Rahman notched up double 2-0 victories at the 2026 Commonwealth Games here today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, fresh from his opening match win yesterday, Izzat Shameer kept his hopes to advance to the next round alive when he beat Shaun Parnis of Malta 1.5-0.5 in his Group D men's singles match at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) Centre. He is set to play against Putul Sonowal of India tomorrow, followed by a match with Kenya's Anwar Hamada on Sunday, and will conclude his Group D competition against Ryan Bester of Canada on Monday.

Meanwhile, the national women's pair Aleena Ahmad Nawawi-Syafiqa Haidar Afif Abdul Rahman secured 2-0 wins against Sharon Barnes-Kristiane Thorsen of the Falkland Islands and Sara Douglas-Fiona Archibald of Jersey in their Group D matches. Their upcoming matches include facing Cook Island's Fa'Amanatu Vasie Ngatoko-Poila and Teokotai Rahui Jim tomorrow, Beth Riva-Caroline Brown of Scotland on Sunday, and they will complete their group matches against Ellie Dixon-Christine Jones of Norfolk Islands on Monday.

Winners of each group will advance to the semi-finals, and the national lawn bowling squad aims to secure two medals of any type in these Games.
