Bandar mahkota cheras: A nine-year-old girl is feared to have drowned after falling into a drain and being swept away by strong currents in Bandar Mahkota Cheras. The incident, which took place yesterday, involved the young girl who frequently played in the area where the tragic event occurred.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the girl's mother, Nordina Zulkarnain, 34, explained that the open area next to their apartment was a common spot for local children to play, including her daughter, Nur Qaseh Deandra Mohd Qayyum. The girl was playing there with friends due to the public holiday when the incident took place.
Nordina recounted that her second son, who is the victim's brother, hurried home to inform her and her husband about the accident. In response, her husband immediately contacted emergency services to request assistance from the fire department.
During today's search efforts, slippers and other items were found in the search area, but Nordina confirmed that they did not belong to her daughter.
The girl's grandfather, Zulkarnain Ahmad, 57, traveled from Seremban to the scene upon hearing the news. He mentioned that he had been unable to sleep since the incident and was participating in the rescue teams' efforts to locate his granddaughter.
Media reports from yesterday indicated that the girl fell into a drain while chasing a ball, and was subsequently swept away by the strong currents. Firefighters received an emergency call regarding the incident at the Sri Hijau Condominium at 7:08 pm.
