Girl Dies After Being Found Unconscious In Drainage Pond

Teluk intan: A three-year-old girl has died after being found unconscious in a drainage pond near her home in Simpang 4 Permatang Pelandok, Teluk Intan, yesterday. Hilir Perak district police chief ACP Chua Kok Lian reported that the incident was brought to the police's attention at around 9.24 pm.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, initial investigations reveal that the tragic event occurred around 7 pm, when the child was discovered unconscious in the pond. Despite being rushed to Teluk Intan Hospital for emergency treatment, she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Chua Kok Lian noted that the site inspection revealed the absence of essential safety features such as barriers or covers, with the pond being approximately four feet deep. The incident took place while the family was tidying up after an event, and the child was noticed missing. At this stage, no criminal activity has been detected, and the authorities are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death.

The police chief emphasized the importance of parental supervision in high-risk areas like ponds, drains, and ditches, and advocated for the installation of barriers or safety fences to prevent future incidents. The case has been classified under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001.
