Kuala lumpur: The Gig Workers Bill 2025, recently passed in the Dewan Rakyat, has been hailed as a momentous gift to gig workers across the nation in celebration of National Day 2025. Human Resources Minister Steven Sim acknowledged the bill’s significance while engaging with e-hailing and p-hailing teams during the National Day parade.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sim expressed his gratitude to the gig workers for their endorsement of the bill, recognizing it as a notable highlight of this year’s National Day celebrations. He emphasized that the bill’s approval provides comprehensive protection to gig workers, addressing their welfare, social security, and rights.
Sim extended his best wishes to the gig workers participating in the Economy, Telecommunications, and Innovation for the People cluster, commending their dedication and patriotic enthusiasm. He was observed showing respect as the contingent made its way past the main stage.
The Gig Workers Bill 2025 is slated for tabling in the current session of the Dewan Negara. Once gazetted and enforced, it aims to ensure legal protections for gig workers in Malaysia, thus concluding a period without formal safeguards for this essential segment of the workforce.
