Alor setar: The patriotic spirit of the staff and students of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Bohor here was displayed in an extraordinary way when the entire school community joined forces to produce a giant Jalur Gemilang in conjunction with this year's National Month celebrations.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, SK Bohor headmistress Hazrina Harun revealed that the Jalur Gemilang, measuring eight metres wide and 20 metres long, was hung from the top of the school's three-storey building. The project took more than two weeks to complete and was sewn by the school's teachers and staff after school hours, reflecting their dedication.
The initiative emerged spontaneously during discussions among the teachers. In total, 27 teachers and seven members of the implementing group (AKP), along with the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG), collaborated to bring the project to life. An estimated 400 metres of fabric was used, with the total cost reaching approximately RM1,000.
Hazrina emphasized that the giant flag symbolized sovereignty and unity, aiming to foster a love for the country among students, the school community, and the local community. She commended the teachers for their commitment, noting that they purchased the fabric and sewed the flag from 2 pm to 7 pm after school hours. As the new headmistress, she highly valued their dedication to instilling patriotism among students, including those in the Special Education Integration Programme (PPKI).
The project also served as an effort to showcase the potential of SK Bohor, a smaller school in the Kota Setar district with 258 students, including 54 PPKI students. SK Bohor PPKI preschool teacher Mohd Tarmizi Rohani, who led the project, highlighted the challenges faced, such as sewing the flag entirely from fabric without using paint and ensuring precision in the design elements like the crescent and the star.
Located along the main route to the city centre and hospital, SK Bohor's giant flag has become an eye-catching attraction, inspiring a spirit of independence among those who pass by.
